Born and raised in Kirikiroa Hamilton, Mark has been training in toi whakairo at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa since 2021.

Of Ngāti Kahungunu and Pākehā ancestry, Mark's artistic interests lie in the intersection of traditional whakairo forms and patterns with contemporary art.

His work is strongly informed by restoration and conservation efforts at his marae, Takitimu Te Waihirere in Wairoa.
