Emma Springford Gough
Emma Springford-Gough started a series of nostalgic ship portraits and Navy frigates a few years ago, and with an ongoing interest in the nautical history of Aotearoa through a female lens, this body of work has now extended to Lighthouses that span the coastlines of New Zealand. She also continues to work on a collection inspired by “shit that I own” featuring domestic and iconic objects from around her house.
Emma’s art practice includes ink drawings, paintings and embroidery. Using upcycled and new fabrics Emma explores the concept 'good enough' through stitching record covers and compilation albums based on New Zealand music artists. To celebrate the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac, Emma is creating a series of snake based works exploring the fascination of a creature that is unfamiliar in Aotearoa's natural landscape
