Wendy Bown
Wendy Bown is a Freelance Photographer and lighting assistant based at Muriwai Beach. She works mainly on commercial assignments of her own, and also assists other freelance photographers. Wendy grew up on a farm somewhere between Blenheim and Nelson, establishing a love and appreciation of the land. She has completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dunedin in 2001, and since been involved in the commercial photography industry. She is keen surfer with an interest in landscape photography as fine art.
‘As much as I love pictures that have been set up, and as important as those pictures are to me, I’d rather photograph something that occurs on its own. The tension between those two kinds of photographs is at the heart of what I do. It’s not conflict, but some times its useful to remember that things are happening right in front of you and that you don’t have to complicate the situation. You can take what’s given to you. You just need your mind and your eye‘ - Annie Lebovitz.
