I'm originally from the West Coast of the South Island, but after I arrived in Auckland for work it didn't take me long to discover Muriwai. I worked for what seemed like a lifetime in prop-making, sculpting and set dressing for film and TV. I also dabbled at vairous times in woodwork, metalwork, house-building and glassblowing. I've lived at Muriwai for 11 years now - what's more, I'm lucky enough to have a little art-shed tucked under Karo trees in our garden, where I discovered the delicate, vibrant medium of ink and water. Ink is fabulous. I love watching it hit a flooded page and free up an image. Most of my work is inspired by nature, and influenced by traditional Japanese and Classical Greek art.
