Sonya Veldhuizen
Sonya Veldhuizen lives on Auckland’s west coast, with her daughter Arielle. She is a self-taught artist who studied conservation and ecology at university. Having completed a post graduate diploma in primary teaching, she works with Trees For Survival, a charitable trust aimed at protecting NZ’s waterways by involving schools in restoration planting projects on private land. Her passion lies in writing conservation-based teaching resources. She combines her art into these resources, also undertaking mural projects, intaglio printmaking and ceramics. She has recently created a board game based on NZ’s ecology and conservation practices. Sonya finds endless inspiration in nature and its perfection
